Police Motorcycles: Quick Facts

: Police motorcycles are manufactured by Harley Davidson, Kawasaki, Honda and BMW.
: They have overhead cam engines and chain drives, usually have 4 cylinders, and normally they are four stroke.
: Motor patrol bikes in the USA are usually custom built.

    Harley Police Bikes:

First produced in 1908
Used in 45 different countries and more than 3,400 law enforcement agencies in the United States
Popular models include the FLHTP Electra Glide, FLHP Road King and the XL Sportster 883

    BMW Police Bikes:

Used in over 130 different countries and aroun 100 law enforcement agencies in the United States
Only law enforcement motorcycle equipped with antilock brakes.
Popular BMW model series are R1100RT-P, R1150RT-P, and R1200RT-P

    Honda Police Bikes:

Reportedly a much smoother, tighter ride with quicker brakes and take off, much quieter and lighter than the Harley.
However, the ST1300 has been reported to pan weave (or wobble) at high speeds.
Honda Police motorcycle models include: ST1100P yr 2003, ST1300PA yr 2005, yr 2006 ST1300P

    Kawasaki Police Bikes:

Manufactured in Lincoln, Nebraska, the last Kawasaki police bikes built were in 2005.
Popular Kawasaki models are the KZ1000C Police motorcycle built from 1978 - 1981 which was meant to compete with the Harley Davidson.
Also the popular KZ1000P Police also known as the KZP built from 1982 -2005. This model had the added fiberglass fairing which featured the front pursuit lights and windshield.
